Arab Cultural Initiatives in Sweden
Arab communities have become an integral part of the social fabric in Sweden. Arab cultural initiatives play a vital role in promoting dialogue; among these, the Stockholm Arab Book Fair has emerged as an annual event celebrating the Arabic language and showcasing Arab intellectual and literary production. It also serves as an important platform for reconnecting younger generations with their cultural heritage. Similarly, the Arab Film Festival provides a valuable window into contemporary Arab storytelling, reflecting the diversity and human depth of the region’s cinematic expression.
Meeting with Ms. Ann Linde
H.E. Mr. Karim Medrek welcomed on 12 November Ms. Ann Linde at the Residence of the Kingdom of Morocco for a high-level conference on feminism and gender equality. Ms. Linde provided a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of feminist thought and Swedish public policy, highlighting the importance of holistic approaches to ensure women's full and equal participation across political, economic, and social spheres. The event brought together a distinguished audience of ambassadors and stakeholders engaged in promoting inclusion and equity in contemporary societies.
Seminar with Religious Leaders
H.E. Karim Medrek took part in a high-level seminar in Stockholm bringing together religious leaders from Uzbekistan, dedicated to promoting interfaith harmony and countering religious extremism. The seminar provided a multidimensional platform combining religious, intellectual, and security perspectives, reflecting global commitment to comprehensive anti-extremism strategies rooted in prevention and dialogue. The event featured a distinguished Uzbek delegation led by Grand Mufti Nuriddin Kholiknazar, alongside prominent Swedish participants.
Gendered Digital Violence as a Threat
On International Women’s Day, H.E. participated in a high-level event on “Gendered Digital Violence as a Threat to Democracy,” organized by the Embassy of France and International IDEA. Discussions highlighted the various forms of online violence targeting women and emphasized that addressing this challenge requires stronger legal frameworks and enhanced accountability of digital platforms to safeguard fundamental rights. The deliberations underscored that protecting women’s rights remains an essential condition for the consolidation of democracy and the advancement of justice.
Reception at the Swedish Parliament
H.E. attended the Diplomatic Reception hosted by Speaker Andreas Norlén at the Riksdag. The event provided an opportunity to further strengthen channels of cooperation with key political actors in Sweden, at a time when diplomatic engagement is gaining increasing importance amid evolving global dynamics and Sweden's accession to NATO. His participation forms part of an active diplomatic approach aimed at consolidating bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Sweden, promoting constructive dialogue as a cornerstone for mutual understanding.
Annual Ramadan Ftour Reception
Hosted by H.E. Karim Medrek, a Ramadan Ftour was held in Stockholm, bringing together Sweden’s Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand and representatives of various religious communities. The gathering serves as a prominent platform for intercultural dialogue, showcasing the Moroccan model of coexistence between Muslims, Jews, and Christians over twelve centuries. This annual event reinforces the role of cultural diplomacy as a vehicle for rapprochement, reminding all that beyond differences in rituals and beliefs, societies remain united by shared values of spirituality and solidarity.
